Bollywood megastar Kavita Krishnamurti jets in to London for a one-off performance of classic Bollywood songs. Travelling from Mumbai for this date only, this is your chance to see a Bollywood legend in action.
Over 40 hit movie songs and performances in films such as Mr. India, Karma, and Saudagar have brought her world-wide fame and numerous awards. She has won amongst others the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Playback Singer and IIFA Best Female Playback Singer for her performance in Devdas, and three prestigious Film Fare awards for 1942 - A Love Story, Yaarana, and Khamoshi. The Indian Government recently awarded her with the coveted Padmashri Award for outstanding contribution to Indian film music.
As part of Raga Mela, Kavita Krishnamurti will be backed by the renowned 60-piece BBC Concert Orchestra in an event that celebrates the rich palette of sounds from two diverse continents. Ragas, Bollywood songs and orchestral sounds are all part of the mix in an evening designed under the artistic direction of Kuljit Bhamra.
The Clore Ballroom from 2pm: Watch Devdas, a classic Bollywood movie with megastar playback singer Kavita Krishnamurti, compose your own raga in one of the hubs, have a go on some Indian instruments or listen to readings from writers and commentators on Indian culture.
