Broken English – Last Mango in Paris

The dangers of skin lightening cream and manbags are juxtaposed with cautionary tales of modern day London, in a spoken word show which embraces music, drama, storytelling and stand-up comedy.

Anglo-Asian iconoclast Shane Solanki was a key player in the rise of both Talvin Singh’s ‘Anokha’ and cult independent record label Ninja Tune. His subversive urban poetry and songs tackle identity with a comic twist. Last Mango in Paris features a stellar line-up of musicians, including vocalist Sabira Jade Botterill and oud player Attab Haddad.

Supported by Ex Central Tempest, a multiple slam winner whose passionate delivery, message and artistic wordplay appeals to hip hop heads and literati alike, and also by in-demand poet Ventriloquist, who presents an excerpt from ‘The Lost Menagerie’, a modern fairy tale set to live jazz music from the Ventriloquist Band.
